Learn From My Mistakes
I don’t know if every Internet marketer is similar to me. I often think, “If I had only known then what I am aware of now.” By “then,” I mean my early months in my adventure into the quagmire of Internet business. I could fill an entire book with the stupid mistakes I made due to ignorance. In truth, I could fill a multi-volume set. It’s a bit embarassing.
Occasionally I try to keep new Internet marketers from repeating my mistakes. Tips that if I had known them at the time I began my first Internet business venture I could have started making a decent income sooner, could have spent less time by doing it the right way the first time and wouldn’t have to tell embarassing stories about myself now. I hope you find these useful.
Here is today’s lifesaving tip: Recognize that any page of your website is likely to become a landing page.
You see, I believed that every visitor to my websites would come first to my home page. Those prospects would diligently read every well-crafted word, and then they would use that information to thoroughly explore the rest of the site in the order that I happened to find logical.
If I had been wise enough to engage a professional to explain to me how my prospective customers would actually discover my site and navigate around it, my sites would have been designed very differently. I needed to either contract with an outside expert, take much more time to learn before acting or had someone with Internet marketing experience design a web site for me that could have met my expectations much sooner.
Here are some things that would have saved me a great deal of time and money in the long run:
* Most people find their destinations by using search engines
* Search engines view the web as a collection of pages, not a collection of websites
* Each individual page on your site and mine should be authored in a way that it contributes to the websites main purpose (sell, obtain leads, whatever)
* Track real human beings to see how they move through my website, which is often very different from the way that I expected that they would
* More quickly discovering that, cumulatively, the interior pages of my website receive more first time visits than my home page
* Recognize that an aesthetically pleasing page is not the same as a productive page
* Learning that spending some money early on can earn a lot more money down the road–and sooner rather than later
I actually love the process of designing the architecture of business websites, now that I actually understand it, so I probably would still not do what I recommend to you: Hire a professional Internet marketer to build yours. However there are lots of things that I should have outsourced (and that I now do) when I was first beginning.

People goes away almost immediately, when they have no idea what you’re offering.
Keep Your Headline Strong
The headline is the most important aspect of your landing page. Whether you attract or repel your visitors depend largely on your headline. Encourage your visitors to stay and read further by using emotional driven words in your headline. Focused on your product’s major benefits, and make it clear and easy to understand.
Focus On The Benefits
Talking about the benefits of your product is an important factor to successful landing page optimization. You start by going through all the benefits and write down the major ones. Write them in such a way that they appeals to the readers’ emotions, such as how their lives will improve when they start using the product. If your visitors knows what benefits they get from the product, they are more willing to buy from you.
You must not confuse the between benefits and features, as they are two different things. Benefits are the results that a client gets upon using the product and features are what the product is designed to do. Focus on the benefits more than features because they will improve your sales conversion far better than features.
Have Professional Looking Website
How your website looks can also make or break your success, so never build a sloppy website. Your visitors are more likely to trust you and buy from you, if your website looks professional. Here is a basic guide to making your website look professional:
- Arial or Verdana Fonts, 10 to 14 size
- Keep your background bright and text dark
- Have no more than 3 columns
- Keep all the links in standard blue text
- Your landing page must have the images of your product
- Check your content fully for spelling and grammatical mistakes
On the internet, 90% of the affiliate landing pages are not optimized properly. This is why they can’t make a sale online. After that, they figure that this is doom to fail and try something else.
